"In the Synelnykove district, police detained a group of individuals suspected of a shooting and kidnapping a man. After committing the crimes, the suspects tried to evade criminal responsibility and were hiding in one of the settlements of the region," the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region reported.
The report of the crime near a store in the town of Shakhtarske, as indicated, was received by the police on May 1 at approximately 11:40 p.m.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that "three men aged 38, 25, and 24 arrived at the store by car. At that moment, a female security guard and her acquaintance were inside the premises. The perpetrators initiated a conflict with a 20-year-old man, which escalated into a fight. During the fight, the suspects beat the victim."
"Subsequently, the attackers put the unconscious man into the car and fired several shots from automatic weapons toward the store building. As a result of the shelling, the facade was damaged, and a fire broke out. After that, the perpetrators fled the scene," the police stated.
As indicated, the police established the victim's location—"he was found in an unconscious state." The man was hospitalized in a medical facility.
Law enforcement officers, as indicated, "identified the persons involved in the crime, their location, and detained the suspects in a neighboring settlement."
"Three men were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying them of suspicion is currently being resolved. Investigative actions are ongoing," the police reported.
The "Da Vinci Wolves" battalion, meanwhile, issued a statement addressing the Shakhtarske community "after the nighttime incident involving fighters of the unit."
"First of all, we want to say: we are very sorry that this happened. Such behavior is unacceptable and incompatible with the values of our battalion and the image of a Ukrainian serviceman. For us, the Shakhtarske community is special. (...) That is why it is especially painful for us that this incident occurred here. We are already conducting an internal investigation and are fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies. The participants in the incident will face appropriate punishment," the statement from the "Da Vinci Wolves" battalion reads.
