The director and deputy of a hazardous waste disposal enterprise have been notified of suspicion. Environmental damage due to soil pollution with medical waste amounted to over 2 million hryvnias.
In Kyiv, the director of a hazardous waste disposal enterprise and his deputy have been notified of suspicion of land pollution with hazardous substances and abuse of authority. According to the investigation, the environment has suffered damages of over UAH 2 million. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, writes UNN.
Under the procedural supervision of the Podil District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv, the director of the enterprise and his deputy for environmental work have been notified of suspicion of land pollution with hazardous substances and abuse of authority
The enterprise was engaged in the collection and disposal of hazardous, including medical, waste, which came from over two dozen Kyiv hospitals and dozens of medical facilities from other regions of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, since 2016, waste was incinerated on a leased land plot, but proper storage was not ensured - hazardous materials were stored directly on the ground, and environmental control over the enterprise's activities was virtually absent.
During an inspection, specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate took soil samples. The study revealed a significant exceedance of permissible levels of several hazardous substances, including arsenic, lead, cadmium, petroleum products, chlorides, and sulfates. According to expert conclusions, the environment suffered damages of over UAH 2 million.
The actions of the suspects are classified under Part 1 of Article 239 and Part 2 of Article 364-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A preventive measure in the form of bail of nearly UAH 1 million has been imposed on the director of the enterprise.
