According to the National Human Rights Network, a gang leader named Monel "Mikano" Felix turned to a voodoo priest who accused elderly slum dwellers of "magical" influence. This provoked a massacre: on Friday, gang members brutally killed more than 60 people, and the next day – about 50 more.
The victims of the attack were mostly elderly people. According to information, machetes were used for the murders.
Due to the control of criminals over areas of the city and the restriction of communication, obtaining confirmation of information remains a difficult task.
