Details

According to BBC Sport, Formula 1 has announced an agreement with General Motors to bring the Cadillac team to the series starting in 2026. Cadillac will become the 11th participant in the championship.

With plans to further grow Formula 1 in the US, we have always believed that having an impressive American brand like GM/Cadillac in the racing grid and GM as a future powertrain supplier could bring additional value and interest to the sport

,” said Greg Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media, owner of the commercial rights to Formula 1.

General Motors will pay Formula One bosses $450 million to get on the grid. This amount will be divided among the 10 existing teams as compensation for the loss of prize money due to the fact that Formula 1 revenue is now divided into 11 parts instead of 10.

Teams in general receive about 63% of Formula 1 revenue.

Starting in 2026, F1 will have new technical regulations and new engines. From 2028, the team will use an engine developed by General Motors.

There is no information yet on who will supply the engines for 2026 and 2027.
