FIDE has suspended the membership of the Chess Federation of Russia for non-compliance with the CAS decision. Individual players will be able to compete in international tournaments under FIDE regulations.

The Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has temporarily suspended the membership of the Chess Federation of Russia for failing to comply with a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This was reported on the FIDE website, according to UNN.
The FIDE Council reviewed the status of compliance with the decision issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the Chess Federation of Russia. Having considered the information provided, the Council notes that the requirements set out in the CAS decision were not met within the established deadlines. In accordance with Article 26.10 of the FIDE Statutes, the Council has decided to impose a sanction in the form of a temporary suspension of the membership of the respective member federation, effective immediately,
At the same time, the Council reaffirms its commitment to protecting the rights and interests of individual chess players.
In accordance with FIDE rules and taking into account the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), measures ensuring the possibility for qualified players to participate in international chess competitions under the conditions established by FIDE will remain in force,
FIDE stated that the decision concerns the member federation and is not a restriction on participation for individual players, in accordance with current FIDE rules and decisions.
