Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas calls on Europe to prepare for Russia's long-term war against Ukraine and to counter Moscow's propaganda efforts. She emphasizes the importance of defense over fear of escalation and calls for action against the spread of disinformation on social media.

Europe should prepare for Russia's long-term war against Ukraine and develop a plan to counter Moscow, including its propaganda. This was stated by Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas in an article for the publication RND , UNN reports.

She emphasizes that  today there can be no question of a quick victory, so we need to prepare a plan for a long struggle.

When I am asked about Ukraine's counteroffensive, I always remind them that it has been going on since February 24, 2022. There is also hope for negotiations. This is the hope that our agreement to a successful land grab in the 21st century will satisfy Russia's appetite. The desire to negotiate comes from those who want to stabilize relations with Russia at all costs

- the Estonian prime minister said.

According to her, by threatening and propagandizing nuclear war, the Russian leadership wants to change the perception of the war in the West.

This leads us into a trap of self-restraint caused by the fear of escalation. Based on this fear, some argue that supporting Ukraine in its defense against aggression means escalation. My response to this is that defense is not provocation. Resistance does not provoke Russia - it provokes weakness

 - Kallas explained.

The Estonian Prime Minister emphasized that the Kremlin is actively fighting on social media, "penetrating our pockets, phones and apps." According to her, this campaign is aimed at disrupting support for Ukraine, provoking internal conflicts, and influencing electoral decisions in the EU.

She emphasized that  after the start of open war, the number of followers of pro-Russian accounts on social media has increased: "more than tripled on Telegram, more than doubled on Tiktok, and nearly 90 percent on YouTube, while Facebook has the largest audience of pro-Kremlin accounts."

We need to think about how we can prevent the spread of disinformation by bots and trolls. Online platforms bear a special responsibility here. To this end, the European Union has adopted the Digital Services Act. It requires Meta, X and Tiktok to prevent illegal and harmful online activities and the spread of disinformation. However, there are other platforms, such as Telegram, that require increased attention

- the Estonian prime minister said.

To recap,

According to the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, Russia is planning a disinformation campaign to weaken international support for Ukraine as critical decisions about its future approach.
