Rembrandt's work was sold at Sotheby's on Wednesday, December 6, for about 11 million pounds, or almost $14 million.
According to Sotheby's, the PA points out, the work "The Adoration of Kings" is one of the few subject paintings by the Dutch artist sold in recent decades.
This is a 1628 work that depicts three kings visiting Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem.
As CNN notes, the painting was estimated at 15 thousand dollars only two years ago, and now it has been sold for millions of dollars - after it was identified as the work of the Dutch master Rembrandt.
Earlier it was sold at Christie's in Amsterdam under the title "The Circle" for 737,260 pounds sterling (926,540 US dollars), including commissions.
Sotheby's stated that an eight-month research program was conducted before the sale, which revealed that it was "a work of great importance in Rembrandt's early career".
A 1655 engraving by Rembrandt titled "Christ Presented to the People" also sold for £508,000 ($638,421) at the Old Masters and Nineteenth-Century Paintings sale, PA writes .
