In June 2026, 270,557 electric cars were registered in the EU, which is 60.7% more than last year. Petrol cars registered 244,833, which is 12.4% less.

In June 2026, electric cars surpassed gasoline cars in the number of registrations in the European Union countries. Overall, the market for new passenger cars grew by 13.6% in the month compared to the same period last year. This is reported by "Ukravtoprom", reports UNN.

According to preliminary data, in June 2026, the market for new passenger cars in the EU grew by 13.6% year-on-year and reached 1,147,962 units. At the same time, the largest increase of +60.7% was shown by the electric vehicle segment.
Registration of new cars in the European Union by power source:
- Hybrids (HEV) – 404,608 units, +18.4%;
- Electric vehicles (BEV) – 270,557 units, +60.7%;
- Gasoline cars – 244,833 units, -12.4%;
- Plug-in hybrids – 115,714 units, +22.1%;
- Diesel – 76,778 units, -16.1%;
- Other – 35,472 units, +2.7%.
Overall, according to "Ukravtoprom", in the first half of the year, almost 5.9 million new passenger cars were registered in the EU, which is 5.7% more than in the same period last year.

In the first half of 2026, the share of new cars with traditional engines increased to 62%, while the share of electric vehicles decreased from 16.9% to 8.3%. The most popular remain gasoline models, in particular the Hyundai Tucson.
