A 28-year-old former soldier from Odesa, previously convicted of drug trafficking, set fire to a military vehicle for a promised reward of UAH 80,000.

In Odesa, a man who set fire to a car belonging to a military man on request was exposed. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

Investigators found that on the night of June 23 in the Peresypskyi district of Odesa, an attacker poured flammable liquid on a Mercedes-Benz belonging to a military woman parked in the yard of a house.

He took a picture of the burning car to send a confirmation of the task to the customer and fled the scene.

Ihor Strashnyi, head of Police Department No. 3 of Odesa District Police Department No. 1, said that the detainee was promised a reward of  80 thousand hryvnias for setting fire to the car.

However, after fulfilling it, only 937 hryvnias were transferred to his bank card, and he received a message on his phone that he was invited to the capital to "work" further.

Under the procedural supervision of the Odesa Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region, investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 263 - carrying a cold weapon without a permit provided by law, Part 2 of Art. 309 - illegal acquisition and possession of a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance without intent to sell, committed within a year after conviction under this article, Part 4 of Art. 185 - theft committed under martial law, and Part 2 of Art. 194 - intentional damage to another's property committed by arson, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

The court imposed on the suspect a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 605 thousand. The materials will be transferred to the State Bureau of Investigation.
