He may become the richest oligarch even during the war - expert on new UAH 2 billion in Poroshenko's declaration.
Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, the income of Eurosolidarity leader Petro Poroshenko has increased 25 times. In just 10 months of 2024, Poroshenko gained almost 4 billion hryvnias and has every chance of becoming the richest oligarch in the country," political scientist Petro Oleshchuk writes.
"The leader of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko, has proved by his own example that war is about enrichment. In October alone, he gained almost two (!) billion hryvnias. If you look at Poroshenko's declarations, you will see that Petro Oleksiyovych's real enrichment came during the war," writes Petro Oleshchuk.
Oleshchuk points out that in pre-war 2021, Poroshenko showed an income of only UAH 162 million, while in 2022 it was already 9 times higher: UAH 1 billion 435 million. And he ended 2023 with UAH 1 billion 440 million in his accounts. Instead, the oligarch's most successful year was 2024, which has not yet ended.
"In just 10 months of 2024, Poroshenko has gained almost 4 billion hryvnias! The year has not yet ended, and he has already received 25 times more money than the year before the war," the expert notes.
Oleshchuk also compares the increase in Poroshenko's income during the war to the decline in the wealth of other oligarchs: the assets of Ukraine's richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, decreased by 64% (minus 365 billion hryvnias). Viktor Pinchuk, the second richest Ukrainian, lost 20 billion hryvnias during the war.
"Poroshenko alone has not only risen from the 12th to the 3rd place among the top oligarchs, but has also accelerated his enrichment at a record pace. Now his wallet is getting fatter by 1-2 billion hryvnias every month. The most interesting thing is that, judging by the rate of enrichment, the "main oppositionist" has every chance of becoming the main oligarch of Ukraine during the war," summarizes Petro Oleshchuk.
As previously reported, the military accused Poroshenko of promoting the Armed Forces with money he received from securities bought for unpaid taxes in Ukraine.
