Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Yaara Saxe gathered in downtown Toronto to announce an important step toward health equity and accessibility.
They presented the government's plan to introduce the first stage of the national universal pharmaceutical assistance.
This initiative, which will be part of the upcoming 2024 budget, aims to remove barriers to access to most prescription contraceptives and diabetes medications.

Our plan to make common contraceptives like the birth control pill and intrauterine device, and even emergency contraception, free of charge will mean that for nine million Canadian women, freedom of choice will be truly "free." And it means more Canadian women will have the freedom to make choices about their bodies and lives
