Video footage shows several fires that broke out on the bridge shortly after the start of the Macy's July 4th fireworks show in New York, just after 9:00 p.m. The police department reported no injuries. A photographer for The New York Times in Manhattan saw flames erupting from at least four points on the bridge's walkway, at locations where fireworks were being launched. After the fireworks show ended, a water-absorbing truck extinguished the fires.

According to law enforcement, the fires "very likely" resulted from fireworks launched for Independence Day. Additionally, emergency services were working on the bridge after the fireworks ended.

According to the publication, shortly before 10:30 p.m., the Brooklyn Bridge remained closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and all lanes were blocked by service vehicles.
