Blinken discussed with Aliyev the importance of continuing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing that aggressive actions and rhetoric undermine the prospects for peace.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the importance of continuing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The conversation was reported by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, UNN reports.

Last September, Azerbaijani troops took control of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Baku and Yerevan have been trying to conclude a formal peace treaty, but talks have stalled over existing issues, including the demarcation of the 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) border between the two countries.

Last Sunday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry claimed that Armenia was concentrating troops in some parts of the border. Armenia rejected this claim.

As noted in Miller's statement, during the conversation, Blinken emphasized that there is no reason to increase tensions on the border and warned that aggressive actions and rhetoric on either side undermine the prospects for peace.
