Bart De Wever stated that Belgium will not arrest Netanyahu, even despite the ICC warrant, citing realpolitik. The opposition criticized these words.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever has stated that if his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu comes to Belgium, he will not be arrested. This is reported by UNN with reference to VRTNews.
Details
Despite the fact that the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on suspicion of war crimes, he is in Hungary, where he is holding high-level meetings with Hungarian leaders. Although not all European countries treat the Israeli prime minister with the same sympathy as Hungary, de Wever said that most of them would not arrest Netanyahu if he came there, as it is "hardly possible" from the point of view of real politics.
In addition, from a legal point of view, it would be impossible to arrest the Israeli prime minister, as Israel is not a member of the International Court, international law professor Steven Devulf said in an interview with VRT.
There is such a thing as real politics. Within the framework of real politics, practical considerations prevail over ethical ones. I don't think there is a single European country that would arrest Netanyahu if he came there. France, for example, would not do it, and I don't think we would either
According to the opposition Flemish Green party Groen, Prime Minister de Wever's comments on Netanyahu put Belgium outside the rule of international law. In addition, the position taken by the federal prime minister was not discussed with the federal government.
The issue was discussed at a morning meeting of the Internal Cabinet on Friday morning. The Flemish Christian Democrats CD&V stated that comments such as those made by Mr. de Wever undermine international norms of international law and that this "cannot be the intention". Two other partners in the federal coalition, the Flemish Socialist Party Vooruit and the French-speaking centrist party Les Engagés, also consider the Prime Minister's statements problematic.
