Iranian state television showed Mustafa, Meysam, and Masoud Khamenei participating in the mourning ceremony by the coffin of their father and four other family members. The farewell is taking place at the religious complex of the Great Mosalla of Imam Khomeini in Tehran.
Ali Khamenei and several members of his family were killed on February 28 as a result of an airstrike during the war between Iran, Israel, and the United States. After several weeks of hostilities, the parties agreed to a ceasefire, but the conflict led to significant destruction and numerous casualties.
Mojtaba Khamenei did not appear at the ceremony
According to Reuters, Iranian authorities have organized a week of mourning events, during which Khamenei's remains are also planned to be transported to Shiite shrines in Iraq. Tens of thousands of people arrived at the ceremony in Tehran, including military personnel, students of religious institutions, and civilians. Due to the large number of participants, the farewell was extended by approximately one hour.
At the same time, Reuters notes that Mojtaba Khamenei has not yet appeared publicly after his father's death. According to the agency, it was previously reported that he may have been injured during the airstrike on February 28, but Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed this information.
