A citizen of Ukraine was detained in Georgia who illegally replenished a crypto wallet with 30,900 GEL using a single 100-lari bill. The man faces up to 10 years in prison for grand theft.
A citizen of Ukraine was detained in Tbilisi who replenished his crypto wallet with about $11,500 using a single 100-lari bill. This was reported by the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, UNN reports.
"The investigation established that on August 17 this year, the accused used a laminated 100 GEL bill to transfer 30,900 GEL to his crypto wallet through cryptomats installed on different streets in Tbilisi," the statement said.
The 35-year-old man wore a mask and gloves. Despite this, the police managed to identify and detain him a few hours after the crime.
Law enforcement officers seized all the illegally obtained cryptocurrency. A mask and gloves were also seized as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing over the fact of large-scale theft (Article 177(4)(b) of the Criminal Code of Georgia). This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.
