The day before, a rally was held in the center of the Slovak capital for a number of reasons. The demonstration, attended by thousands of people, was held under the slogan "We don't want to be in the hands of Russia again," which included expressions of disapproval of the policies of the government of populist Prime Minister Robert Fico. The rally was also planned to mark the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.

Representatives of the opposition parties emphasized that they would not be intimidated and would not allow Slovakia to return to slavery to Russia.

Slovakia is and will forever remain a part of Western civilization. We do not want anyone to pull us to Moscow

,” said Frantisek Mikloszko, a member of the Christian Democratic Movement (HDM) and former dissident.

Former Foreign Minister and presidential candidate Ivan Korčok also spoke at the event. In his speech, he called for tolerance between parties, as well as for liberals and conservatives to "unite to save Slovakia.
