In Pechersk, a VAZ driver caused a collision with a BMW, resulting in the death of a 49-year-old pedestrian. The perpetrator was detained and faces up to eight years in prison.

Police have detained a VAZ driver suspected of causing a fatal traffic accident that occurred on the evening of June 10 in the capital's Pechersk district, where a 49-year-old pedestrian was killed. This was reported by the Kyiv police, according to UNN.

It is noted that the accident occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of General Almazov and Staronavodnytska streets.
Preliminary findings indicate that the 35-year-old driver of a VAZ vehicle, while making a left turn, failed to yield the right of way to a BMW. Consequently, the latter vehicle lost control and struck a 49-year-old man who was crossing the road at a bicycle crossing. The victim died from his injuries in the ambulance.
Investigators detained the VAZ driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was sober.
The incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
The issue of notifying the detainee of the charges is currently being decided.
