300 thousand Ukrainians consulted doctors for mental health problems: what they complain about most often

In the first 7 months of 2024, about 300 thousand Ukrainians visited primary care doctors for mental health problems. The most common complaints are anxiety, sleep disorders, and other psychological symptoms.
About 300,000 Ukrainians filed mental health complaints with primary care doctors in the first seven months of 2024, most often due to anxiety and sleep disturbances, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on Friday, UNN writes.
Details
In the first seven months of 2024, 276 926 patients received medical care under the package "Support and treatment of adults and children with mental disorders at the primary level of medical care". Of these, 42 ,458 were children under 17 years of age (inclusive)," the Ministry of Health reported, citing data from the EHSU as of July 31.
The most common complaints and diagnoses:
- feeling of anxiety/nervousness/tension - 117 037 patients;
- sleep disorders - 76,548 patients;
- other psychological symptoms/complaints - 47,223 patients;
- depressed mood - 16 170 patients;
- child behavior/symptoms/complaints - 11,672 patients;
- acute stress reaction - 11,555 patients;
- memory impairment - 10,274;
- tobacco abuse - 8,090 patients;
- feelings/behavior irritation/anger - 5,257 patients;
- old age, feelings/behavior of an old person - 5,216 patients.
It is reported that currently 1,059 primary healthcare facilities are contracted by the NHSU to provide services under this package. They have 11,896 doctors providing mental health services at 3,707 service locations.
Addendum
The Ministry of Health indicated that about 135,000 patients received such services during the 12 months of 2023. Women complained of mental health problems the most - more than 72 thousand. The data also includes information on visits to primary care doctors for complaints about mental health of more than 18 thousand children.
