Railway hub city of Chernihiv region
Bakhmach is a city in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine, located on the Borzenka River, a tributary of the Borzna River, 145 km southeast of the regional center. The first mention of the settlement dates back to 1147, and the modern city began to develop in the 1860s and 1870s as a working-class settlement due to the construction of the Kursk-Kyiv and Libau-Romny railways. Currently, Bakhmach is an important railway junction of five directions, which contributes to its economic development, and the city's population as of 2022 was 16,862 people. Throughout its history, the city has played the role of an administrative and industrial center, receiving city status in 1938, and in 2020 it was approved as the administrative center of the Bakhmach urban territorial community.
