World Health Day
World Health Day, celebrated on April 7, is an important date for raising awareness of global health issues and promoting healthy lifestyles. This day was founded in 1950 by the World Health Organization (WHO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.
Every year, WHO chooses a thematic focus for World Health Day, which focuses on specific aspects of global health, such as combating infectious diseases, improving access to medical services, improving nutrition, mental health, or climate change and its impact on health. This approach allows focusing public attention on the most pressing health issues and ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing them.
International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Rwanda
International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Rwanda, established by the United Nations on December 23, 2003. This day is dedicated to commemorating the victims of one of the most brutal genocides in modern history, which took place in Rwanda in 1994.
During 100 days from April to July 1994, approximately 800,000 people were killed in Rwanda, mostly members of the Tutsi ethnic group. The genocide was the result of ethnic tensions between the two groups — Tutsi and Hutu — that existed in the country. Mass killings, violence and destruction have left deep scars in Rwandan society and the international community.
This day is intended not only to commemorate the victims of this terrible period, but also to emphasize the importance of preventing such tragedies in the future. It is also a moment for the international community to reflect on the need to combat hatred, racism and intolerance, which can lead to violence and genocide.

International Beaver Day
International Beaver Day is celebrated annually on April 7, which was founded in 2009. This holiday is celebrated in honor of the birthday of Dorothy Richards, who studied beavers and their impact on the environment for 50 years. She was one of the greatest researchers of these animals and made a significant contribution to the scientific understanding of the role of beavers in natural ecosystems.
International Beaver Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of these animals to ecosystems, as well as promote their protection. Beavers play an important role in shaping landscapes, creating natural barriers to water flows, which can help in the fight against floods and the conservation of water resources. Beaver Day is also an opportunity to celebrate achievements in the field of nature conservation and emphasize the importance of preserving wildlife.
Commemoration of the Holy Venerable Yury Melitiysky
Saint George Melitiysky, known for his deep spirituality and monastic life, is an important figure in the Christian tradition. He renounced worldly possessions to devote himself to serving God.
Throughout his life, he experienced many difficulties, including persecution by iconoclasts during the reign of Emperor Leo the Isaurian, for which he received the title of Confessor.
After his appointment as Archbishop of Mitilene, George led an impeccable spiritual life, which became an example for many. Thanks to his mercy and kindness, he gained fame as a miracle worker, healing people from incurable diseases and casting out evil spirits.
Despite his exile to Kherson during the time of Leo the Armenian, his life was not in vain. According to legends, after his death in 820, a bright star shone in the sky, which became a sign of his holiness and divine blessing.
According to the new church calendar, Arkady, Evdokia, Georgy, Danil, Prokip and Petro celebrate their name days on this day.
