White House ballroom project gets final approval despite court injunction
Kyiv • UNN
The National Capital Planning Commission supported Trump's project on the East Wing site. Construction remains blocked by a court decision.

The U.S. Federal National Capital Planning Commission on April 2 finally approved the project for the construction of the White House ballroom, despite a recent court injunction to halt work. This was reported by American media, writes UNN.
Details
The commission explained that the court's decision concerns the construction itself, not the planning procedures. Thus, the Donald Trump administration continues to push one of the most controversial White House redevelopment projects.
This refers to a massive ballroom planned to be built on the site of the demolished East Wing. The project has already sparked a wave of criticism due to its luxurious style, hasty approval, and doubts about the legality of the development itself.
Over 32,000 comments were against it
According to the commission, it received over 32,000 public comments, and almost all of them were negative. Critics called the project excessive, politically motivated, and detrimental to the historical appearance of the White House complex.
District Court Judge Richard Leon previously stated directly that the president cannot unilaterally dispose of the complex as an owner.
The President of the United States is the steward of the White House for future generations of first families. However, he is not the owner!
Construction is currently blocked
Despite the new approval, the construction itself remains blocked for now. For the project to be fully launched, the Trump administration will likely have to either win an appeal or seek a separate congressional decision.
The dispute over the ballroom has become another symbol of how Trump is trying to change the appearance and symbolism of American state infrastructure to suit his own political style.
