What is celebrated on June 19 in Ukraine and the world

This day combines an important Ukrainian professional holiday, deeply social and human rights international UN initiatives, and is also a day of remembrance of one of Christ's apostles in the church calendar, reports UNN.

Farmer's Day

An official professional holiday established in 2020. The date was not chosen by chance: it was on June 19, 2003, that the Law "On Farming" was adopted in Ukraine. This is a day to honor the hard and extremely important work of farmers who ensure the country's food security and support the economy, often working under extremely difficult conditions.

International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict

An important day of remembrance and human rights advocacy, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2015. The date is intended to draw the attention of the world community to the problem of using sexual violence as a tactic of warfare and terror, and to express support for the victims. For Ukraine, in the context of the war, this day has a special, painful significance.

World Sickle Cell Day

Established by a UN resolution to raise awareness about this hereditary genetic blood disease. The day aims to support patients and promote equal access to diagnosis and treatment worldwide.

Juneteenth or Freedom Day

One of the most important federal holidays in the United States, marking the final abolition of slavery. It was on June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom.

World Sauntering Day

This holiday was created in 1979 as a response to the growing cult of running and haste. It calls on people to slow down, put away their gadgets, go outside, and simply take a leisurely stroll, paying attention to the world around them and enjoying the moment.

National Martini Day

A popular gastronomic holiday dedicated to one of the most famous classic cocktails in the world, traditionally made with gin and vermouth.

Friday of the Apostles' Fast (Petrivka)

The work week of the summer fast concludes. Since Friday is traditionally a day of remembrance of Christ's crucifixion, the church charter prescribes strict fasting — believers should abstain from meat, eggs, dairy products, and fish (dry eating or hot food without vegetable oil is allowed).

Feast of Saint Jude the Apostle, Brother of the Lord (Thaddeus)

According to the new (New Julian) calendar, one of the 12 apostles of Christ is honored on this day. Importantly: he should not be confused with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus. The Apostle Jude (Thaddeus) remained faithful to Christ, preached the Gospel in Judea, Galilee, and Mesopotamia, and suffered a martyr's death. In Christian tradition, he is considered the patron saint of people in hopeless or desperate situations.
