Vance stated a "very good day" of negotiations between the US and Iran

Sunday was a "very, very good" day of negotiations between the US and Iran in Switzerland, said US Vice President JD Vance, reports UNN citing CNN.

Details

The US Vice President outlined four main priorities, as technical talks are expected to continue in the coming days. He said Iran agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) into the country, and said some progress had been made in negotiations to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

"We laid the foundation — we didn't build the house — but we laid a successful foundation for achieving a good state of affairs for the American people," the US Vice President said as he prepared to leave Switzerland.

As the publication writes, Vance also denied that Trump's rebuke to the Iranian president had upended the talks: "We told the Iranians yesterday that when you guys are doing what we millennials might call trash-talking, you can't expect the President of the United States not to respond and set the record straight."

Regarding Iran's agreement to allow nuclear inspectors, Vance noted: "This is an important milestone for the American people and a first step toward the final denuclearization or the final termination of the nuclear weapons program in Iran, and that is exactly what we wanted to do."

Regarding the state of negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah, the US Vice President stated: "This is work that continues, but what we have done is essentially set up an operation so that we can ensure it does not spiral out of control in the future."

He also commented on the initiative to unfreeze Iranian assets.

"We wanted to make sure that we created a process in which, if we ever unfreeze Iranian assets, we can guarantee that the money, those Iranian funds, will go to help the people of Iran, and not to finance terrorism," said Vance, adding that the US and Qatar will have approval over this process.

"The money will actually go to buy American soybeans, American corn, and American wheat for the benefit of the Iranian people," he added, calling it a "classic Trump deal."
