US pushes UN resolution with possibility of sanctions and force against Iran

The United States is promoting a resolution at the UN calling for increased sanctions against Iran, or the use of force against it for obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States, along with its allies, has submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council that provides for sanctions or even the use of force if Iran does not stop obstructing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

The document, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg, demands that Iran "immediately cease all attacks and threats against commercial vessels" and ensure safe navigation.
The draft refers to Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which opens the possibility of applying sanctions and military measures in case of non-compliance.
Iran is also called upon to remove naval mines and guarantee access for humanitarian aid. Separately, it is noted that countries are prohibited from paying Tehran any fees for passage through the strait.
Prospects for adoption in question due to the position of Russia and China
The initiative faces uncertainty, as its adoption requires the support of Russia and China, who already blocked a similar document last month.
China and Russia have no reason to consider a text under Chapter VII, which also names Iran as the sole aggressor
The US is simultaneously implementing a military operation to escort vessels
Amid diplomatic efforts, Washington has already launched Operation "Project Freedom," which involves military escort for commercial vessels through the strait.
US President Donald Trump announced the launch of the initiative, after which American forces engaged in clashes with Iranian units during the passage of container ships.
This is an incredibly important precedent that we are creating here
According to Waltz, the document is being developed together with Bahrain and the Gulf countries and has "very sufficient chances of adoption."
