The US military destroyed rocket launchers and a T-64 tank in eastern Syria in response to the shelling of the MSS Euphrates base. The Pentagon is investigating who is behind the attack, suggesting involvement of pro-Iranian forces.
The US military attacked weapons systems in eastern Syria in self-defense after attacking their positions. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the representative of the Pentagon, Major General Pat Ryder, writes UNN.
Details
It is noted that the strike was not related to the current actions of the rebels in the country.
According to Ryder, the US military hit several weapons systems, including three mobile rocket launchers and a T-64 tank, after shells were fired from this territory in the direction of the MSS Euphrates support base, where US troops are stationed.
These self-defense actions successfully eliminated imminent threats to U.S. personnel and were irrelevant to broader operations in northwestern Syria
The Pentagon continues to find out who exactly carried out the attack on the US military, but Ryder added that in the past, attacks from this region were often carried out by pro-Iranian forces. Syrian army units are also located in the area.
There are about 900 US troops in Syria who are focused on fighting Islamic State militants in the region.
