There is a drought and water supply problems in northeastern Syria. Turkish air strikes are among the reasons. According to the BBC, between October 2019 and January 2024, Turkey carried out more than 100 attacks on oil fields, gas facilities, and power plants in the Kurdish-controlled Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria (AANES).
