On his Truth Social platform, Trump began his posts by wishing a Merry Christmas to everyone, including “the wonderful soldiers of China who lovingly, but illegally, use the Panama Canal.” He also mentioned the American lives lost during the construction of the canal more than a century ago, adding that the United States is spending billions of dollars on “repairs” but “has no say in anything.
Later, he also mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him a “governor,” and suggested the possibility of annexing Canada as the 51st state of the United States.
Trump said that if Canada joined the United States, “taxes in Canada would be reduced by more than 60%, business would double, and the country would receive military protection that no other country has.
In his posts, he also addressed the residents of Greenland, emphasizing its strategic importance to US national security, saying that the country wants to see the United States there, and it will happen.
In addition, Trump mentioned that he had offered former hockey player Wayne Gretzky to run for prime minister of Canada, but he refused.
At the same time, Trump criticized President Joe Biden, calling him “a man who doesn't know what he's doing,” and wished the “radical left” a happy New Year.
In previous posts, he has also expressed his desire to regain U.S. control of the Panama Canal, condemning the high fees charged by Panama for its use.

In the early 1900s, the United States contributed to the construction of the Panama Canal and controlled it until 1977, when an agreement was signed to gradually transfer control to Panama. The joint operation of the canal continued until 1999, after which Panama gained full control in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump's presidential transition team announced its intention to appoint Kevin Marino Cabrera as US ambassador to Panama.
In a statement, Trump accused Panama of “predatory” use of the Panama Canal, noting that the scale of this is even hard to imagine. Cabrera is a member of the Miami-Dade County Commission and the Miami-Dade International Trade Consortium.
Trump has also renewed interest in the idea of acquiring Greenland, which Denmark rejected during his first term.
This week, he announced his intention to appoint Ken Howery as ambassador to Denmark. In response, Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede rejected any suggestion of Trump's actions against his country.
