Train and bus accident near Rivne: number of injured rises to 11, investigation launched

Near Rivne today, July 2, a fatal traffic accident occurred. It was established that the driver of a passenger train allowed a collision with a scheduled minibus that drove onto the tracks. As a result of the collision, 4 people died, and 11 others were injured. This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in the Rivne region, according to UNN. 

An investigator from the investigative department established that the driver of the passenger train "Dnipro-Kyiv-Chelm", despite applying emergency braking, allowed a collision with the scheduled minibus "Zdolbuniv-Rivne" driven by a 42-year-old local resident who drove onto the tracks 

It is currently known that sound and light signals were working, indicating the approach of high-speed transport, but the railway barrier was not lowered.

As a result of the accident, four passengers of the minibus died: a 72-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman, and two sisters aged 24 and 29 — residents of villages in the Zdolbuniv community. In addition, a total of 11 residents of the Rivne district aged from 11 to 68 were injured. They were taken to four hospitals in the region with fractures and lacerations. One of them is in the intensive care unit in serious condition, unconscious, and his identity is being established 

Among the injured are the minibus driver and the railway crossing attendant who was on duty. Also, two 13-year-old girls and an 11-year-old resident of Kvasyliv were hospitalized at the Rivne Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of procedural detention of the crossing attendant and the minibus driver is being decided. Investigative actions are ongoing
