The President of Serbia announced the upcoming US sanctions against NIS due to its russian ownership. Serbia is considering reducing Gazprom's share in the company below 50%.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the United States intends to impose sanctions against the Serbian oil and gas company NIS because of its affiliation with russia. This was reported by EuroNews, according to UNN.

Details

It is noted that the majority shareholder of the company is the russian energy corporation Gazprom, which owns 50% of the shares, and a subsidiary Gazprom Neft owns another 6.15% of the shares. Other shares are owned by the state and small shareholders.

We have received confirmation that in the next few days the US will impose sanctions on NIS due to russian ownership

- said Oleksandr Vuvych.

He expressed hope that the UK and the European Union would follow Washington's lead and impose their own sanctions.

According to EuroNews, the U.S. Treasury Department has not yet commented on the sanctions, and the Serbian government has not received any official information on the details from the United States.

The Serbian president added that the sanctions could complicate Serbia's relations with russia, with which the country has significant political and economic ties.

Of course, this opens up problems for us with our russian friends on everything. From politics to everything else

- emphasized Oleksandr Vuvych.

He added that his country would consider reducing the russian share in NIS below 50% and discuss this with its russian partners.
