The Center for Countering Disinformation records the beginning of an active phase of a Russian information special operation aimed at splitting relations between Ukraine and Poland on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn Tragedy, which is observed in Poland on July 11, UNN reports.
Details
Russian propaganda has begun massively spreading fake information under the guise of "declassified historical documents" regarding the operation against the commander of UPA-North, Dmytro Klyachkivsky ("Klym Savur").
The published FSB materials quote Soviet reports about the alleged "murder by Banderites during a service in churches of 11 priests and up to 2,000 Poles on the streets of Volodymyr-Volynskyi."
According to historians, including Volodymyr Viatrovych, this information is a fabrication of Soviet Chekists, which is not confirmed by any other sources – neither Polish, nor Ukrainian, nor German. It should be noted that the FSB already attempted to launch this fake in 2022, and is now making a second attempt.
To conduct the information operation, Russia has massively involved propaganda media, as well as official resources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The obvious goal of involving the diplomatic agency is to artificially bring these dumps into the foreign information space.
"By manipulating the difficult historical past, the Kremlin seeks to provoke an artificial confrontation between the Polish and Ukrainian peoples in order to undermine Ukraine's support from Poland and weaken the Ukrainian-Polish partnership," the statement reads.
