Stoltenberg discussed with Prime Minister Orban Hungary's concerns about NATO's role in Ukraine, expressing confidence that a consensus would be reached on providing support to Ukraine from beyond its borders.

During his visit to Brussels, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban the concerns of Hungarians about NATO's role in Ukraine. Stoltenberg is convinced that these fears will be dispelled in the coming weeks. This was reported by Reuters journalists, UNN reported.

We are not discussing NATO's combat presence in Ukraine. We are discussing how we can coordinate and provide support to Ukraine from outside Ukraine, as NATO Allies do.

- Stoltenberg emphasized.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the NATO ministerial meeting currently taking place in Brussels. The NATO Secretary General expressed confidence that the Alliance will find a solution to reach a consensus with the Hungarians on the issue of assistance to Ukraine.

And now that we are starting to plan, I am confident that we can also address the concerns that Hungary has raised and find a way to reach a consensus.

- Stoltenberg added.

A two-day meeting of NATO ministers began in Brussels today to discuss  the creation of a five-year, 100 billion euro ($107 billion) military aid fund called Mission for Ukraine, which is supposed to give the Western alliance a more direct role in supporting Kyiv. However, this proposal of the NATO Secretary General caused a mixed reaction of the Alliance member states.

In particular, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó "firmly stated that Hungary will not support any NATO proposals that could bring the alliance closer to war or change it from a defensive to an offensive coalition," government spokesman Zoltán Kovács told X.
