Spider found in woman's ear in Ivano-Frankivsk

In Ivano-Frankivsk, a spider was found in a patient's ear, reported by the Communal Non-Profit Enterprise "Central City Clinical Hospital of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council," writes UNN.

The patient complained of pain and stuffiness in her left ear. And during a preventive examination of the right ear, a spider was unexpectedly found.

- reported the hospital.

This is a real case from practice. And, as otolaryngologist Andriana Melnyk notes, such situations occur much more often in the summer season than it seems.

"If an insect gets into the ear, the main rule is not to try to remove it yourself. This can not only worsen the situation but also cause trauma to the ear canal or even the eardrum. The best solution is to consult a doctor who will quickly and safely remove the foreign body and check for any damage," the medical institution emphasized.

Also, the hospital advises against independently dripping any liquids into the ear. "This can make the insect move more actively, which increases the risk of injury," the report says.

Separately, the doctor emphasizes: earwax is not "dirt." It is a natural protective mechanism that helps trap dust, microorganisms, and even small insects.

"By completely removing earwax, you deprive the ear of its natural barrier. Even in this patient's case, the spider was able to penetrate quite deeply – almost to the eardrum," explains Andriana Melnyk.
