Two suspects in the case of ex-deputy energy minister to be remanded in custody

The HACC has chosen preventive measures for two suspects in the case of the former Deputy Minister of Energy. One of them was placed under round-the-clock house arrest, the other was held in custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 7 million.

The High Anti-Corruption Court has ruled on preventive measures for the third and fourth suspects in the case of the former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine. The court decided on round-the-clock house arrest for one of the suspects and custody with the possibility of bail for the other.

On Monday, August 12, the High Anti-Corruption Court partially upheld the motion of an NABU detective, imposing round-the-clock house arrest on one of the defendants in the case of the former Deputy Minister of Energy and the former head of a state-owned enterprise. The other suspect, the head of the LLC, was held in custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 7 million. The investigating judges ordered both suspects to perform their duties for a period of two months.

According to part 1 of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.

NABU and SAPO reported that Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Oleksandr Heilo and three of his accomplices were caught taking a half-million dollar bribe for granting permission to export mining equipment from the frontline area.

The official of the Ministry of Energy and his accomplices were detained red-handed. Their actions are classified as a crime under Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Former Deputy Minister of Energy Oleksandr Hale, who was caught taking bribes, was sent to custody . The court made a similar decision regarding two of his associates.
