Farmers have raised potato prices to 22-30 UAH/kg due to increased demand before the New Year holidays. The current price is 85% higher than last year due to reduced production as a result of the summer drought.

This week, the potato market in Ukraine has seen an intensification of trade and procurement activities, according to analysts of the EastFruit project . At the same time, there is an increase in selling prices, UNN reports.

This year's New Year's table will rise in price by about 15-17%Dec 11 2024, 12:11 PM • 150740 views

Farmers continue to raise selling prices in this segment. Thus, they are now declaring potato prices in the range of 22-30 UAH/kg ($0.53-0.72/kg), which is on average 22% higher than a week earlier.

Market operators attribute the increased trading activity in this segment to the growing interest of wholesalers and retailers, who have already started stockpiling for the New Year holidays. At the same time, they do not rule out the possibility of further price increases in this segment, but admit that a sharp rise in prices should not be expected.

It is worth noting that today potatoes in Ukraine are on sale on average 85% more expensive than in the same period last year. This significant price increase is due to a decline in potato production in Ukraine this year. The main reason for the decline in potato production was the drought that was observed in almost all major potato growing regions in the summer.
