In a lawsuit filed in the New York State Supreme Court, the victim's relatives accuse Fox News of negligence. In addition to Alexandra, the channel's cameraman, Irish citizen Pierre Zakrzewski, was killed.
The lawsuit alleges that Fox News sent a group of journalists into an active war zone despite numerous warnings from local officials and a security consultant who advised them not to do so.
Kuvshynova's family also accuses the American television company and its correspondent Benjamin Hall, who was seriously injured that day, of distorting the circumstances of the journalist's death.
In response to a request from Business Insider, Fox News said it understood the family's grief but would "respectfully defend against the inaccurate claims in this lawsuit.
After his daughter's death, the Ukrainian woman's father said, Fox offered him compensation that covered salary arrears, life insurance, and funeral expenses, but forced him to sign a document waiving all claims against the company. The lawsuit states that the man had no idea of the contractual concessions he was making. Zakrzewski's widow was forced to sign the same agreement in exchange for insurance and funeral benefits.
