875 mostly elderly residents remain in Chasovyi Yar, Donetsk region, despite constant shelling, lack of utilities and efforts by the authorities to convince them to evacuate, as they feel at home and have nowhere else to go.

In Chasovyi Yar in Donetsk region, 875 residents remain, mostly elderly people who do not dare to evacuate. The head of the city's military administration, Serhiy Chaus, told this on the air of Radio Liberty, UNN reports.

875 people remain in the community. We have reduced the number a bit, people have moved a bit. But I can't say that it's a large flow. People still stay in their apartments and houses. As you can see, the number is not small

- said Sergiy Chaus.

He said that the city authorities are trying to convince people to leave. Yesterday, they held a teleconference with one of the "shelters" in the center of Ukraine to demonstrate how the city residents who have already agreed to evacuate are being accommodated.

However, according to the head of the MVA, despite the shelling, lack of electricity, water and gas, many residents are not ready to leave.

Most of them are people of retirement age, well over 60. To say that they don't know where to go is not entirely correct. They do not understand how they will see themselves in society in the future. Here they are at home. Yes, there is constant danger. Yes, there is constant shooting. Yes, there is a lack of electricity, water, gas. But they are at home. This is their main narrative. They say they are at home and have nowhere to go. Constant shelling that does not stop, the silence in the city in recent months simply does not exist

- the official said.

According to him, Russian artillery and aircraft attack daily, although there are moments of calm. Water and food packages are being brought to those who stay in the city.

We are delivering humanitarian aid to the residents - water delivery, the minimum set of things that can be done during hostilities, despite the risks and difficult situation

- Sergiy Chaus said.
