Swiss Nord Stream 2 AG demands the cancellation of the EU decision on the gradual phase-out of Russian gas imports by 2027. The company considers the new restrictions as expropriation of the asset.

The Swiss company Nord Stream 2 AG, which is the operator of the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline, has filed a lawsuit with the General Court of the European Union demanding the annulment of the decision on the gradual abandonment of Russian gas imports. Reuters reports, writes UNN.
Details
The lawsuit concerns the European Union legislation adopted this year, which provides for a complete cessation of Russian gas imports by the end of 2027. Brussels explained this decision by Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.
Nord Stream 2 AG believes that the new restrictions effectively deprive the company of the ability to use the two-pipe gas pipeline system and are tantamount to asset seizure.

"Nord Stream 2" was completed in 2021, but Germany halted its certification on the eve of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, the gas pipeline has never been put into operation.
In September 2022, the "Nord Stream" gas pipeline system was damaged as a result of explosions in the Baltic Sea. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of involvement in the incident. The European Parliament and the EU Council declined to comment on the new lawsuit.
