In particular, Merz once again defended the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. According to him, the United States, France and the United Kingdom are already supplying comparable weapons.

All three did not become belligerents. Taurus is a building block for restoring peace in Ukraine

- said Friedrich Merz.

As for the possible deployment of German troops, he said that a mandate for Germany's participation in the peacekeeping mission is needed.

If there is to be a peace agreement and if Ukraine needs security guarantees, then this can only be discussed if there is a corresponding mandate under international law. I don't see this at the moment. I would like such a mandate to be based on a consensus with Russia, not on a conflict

- Mertz said.

At the same time, he added that he could not yet imagine what security guarantees Germany could give Ukraine under his rule.

“The ceasefire is still far away. These are all issues that need to be clarified in the next few weeks, and possibly months,” the politician said.

Recall

Friedrich Merz is in favor of reducing social benefits for Ukrainian refugees in Germany. Instead, he proposes to grant them the immediate right to work without the need to learn the language.
