South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung was hospitalized after being stabbed in the neck during a press conference in Busan; the attacker was detained.

The leader of the Democratic Party, the main opposition force in South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, was shot in the neck during a visit to Busan. This was reported by Reuters, UNN .

It is noted that the politician was attacked during a press conference he held in the city of Busan.

A man with a paper crown on his head and the name Li, who looked to be in his 50s or 60s, asked the opposition leader for an autograph, then rushed at him and stabbed him. The politician then fell to the ground. 

The attacker was detained by police and refused to answer questions about his motives. 

The opposition leader is currently conscious in a Seoul hospital. According to doctors, Lee's jugular vein was damaged.

South Korean President Yun Suk-yol expressed deep concern for Lee Jae-myung's safety and ordered the police and relevant authorities to quickly establish the facts and make every effort to quickly transport the victim to a hospital and provide him with treatment.

Yoon also emphasized that such violence should never be tolerated under any circumstances.
