Lithuania presented Ukraine with an updated demining concept that focuses on humanitarian and combat demining in war-affected areas, which is a priority of Lithuania's assistance to Ukraine for 2024-2026.
Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Arvydas Anušauskas presented the updated concept of the "Coalition for Demining" to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhyhyr during his visit to Vilnius. UNN reports this with reference to a statement by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The concept includes both elements of "humanitarian demining" of the liberated occupied territories and "combat demining" on the the line of contact with the enemy.
"The mines and unexploded ordnance that Russia has planted on our land is not only an obstacle to the counteroffensive, it is a shot at our children and and grandchildren, because mined countries continue to suffer from these invisible killers for decades after the end of the wars. Lithuania today is leading a very difficult direction in the fight against this insidious weapon. In particular, the expansion of the coalition's work to the war zones confirms the readiness to quickly take into account the most acute problems and find ways to solve them," emphasized Yuriy Dzhyhyr.
and according to Arvydas Anusauskas, for the Lithuanian side the implementation of this issue is the main priority in providing assistance to Ukraine for 2024-2026. The Lithuanian-led mine action coalition is currently expected to be joined by 22 countries. 22 countries intend to join.
