Kyivstar explains large-scale outage by powerful hacker attack

A massive hacker attack on Kyivstar's Ukrainian mobile network has caused outages and technical problems; the company is working to restore the network and will pay compensation to affected subscribers.

The network of Kyivstar mobile operator (Kyivstar) was subjected to a powerful hacker attack, which caused a technical failure, the press service said in a statement obtained by UNN.

On the morning of December 12, Kyivstar's communication network was the target of a powerful hacker attack, which caused a technical failure that temporarily disrupted communication and Internet access services,

Kyivstar said.

To record the circumstances and consequences of illegal actions to interfere with the Kyivstar network, "the operator has engaged representatives of law enforcement agencies and special state services who are currently working in the company's office," the company said.

"As of now, it is known that the personal data of subscribers has not been compromised. At the moment, the operator's specialists are working to eliminate the consequences of the hacker attack to restore communication and services as soon as possible," the statement said.

Kyivstar reportedly "will definitely provide compensation to subscribers who had no connection or could not use the operator's services" and apologized.
