ISW: Russia is trying to disrupt the agreement between Ukraine and the USA regarding minerals
Kyiv • UNN
The Kremlin is trying to undermine the agreement between Ukraine and the United States by offering the States cooperation in the extraction of rare earth metals. Experts warn that this will not stop the aggression of the Russian Federation.

Russian officials continue to try to disrupt the proposed US-Ukrainian mineral agreement by promoting potential US-Russian rare earth element mining projects. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), reports UNN.
Details
Analysts note that on the eve of the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that American companies are interested in joint projects with Russia for the extraction of rare earth metals and that these projects are the first step towards improving bilateral relations, although the United States and Russia have not yet signed any documents on rare earth metals.
The CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, also said ... that US-Russian economic cooperation should be the focus if the United States wants to end the war in Ukraine, but that such cooperation will only begin after the completion of peace talks
According to analysts, the Kremlin is trying to undermine the Trump administration's goals of linking US-Ukrainian economic interests through a US-Ukrainian mineral agreement by presenting Russia as a supplier of rare earth minerals that outperforms Ukraine.
The economic cooperation that Russia seeks with the United States will not deter Russia from re-invading Ukraine in the future and will not help achieve the Trump administration's goals of economic ties between the United States and Ukraine. Such cooperation would also accelerate the recovery of the Russian army faster than otherwise
Experts conclude that Russia is using economic incentives unrelated to the war in Ukraine to demand concessions from the United States regarding the war in Ukraine.
"These concessions will lead to a loss of influence that is crucial to US President Donald Trump's stated goal of achieving a lasting and mutually beneficial peace in Ukraine," ISW concludes.
