India has successfully tested an Agni ballistic missile equipped with MIRV technology, which allows a single missile to carry multiple warheads to strike different targets. This was reported by Defence Blog, according to UNN.

The launch took place from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha state. India's Ministry of Defence stated that the missile successfully hit several separate targets during a single launch.
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the test an important step in strengthening the country's defense capabilities amid growing security threats in the region.
India strengthens nuclear deterrence
MIRV technology allows a single ballistic missile to deliver multiple warheads, each of which can attack a separate target. This significantly complicates the operation of missile defense systems.
Defence Blog notes that the Agni missile program is the cornerstone of India's nuclear deterrence. India conducted its previous public test of the MIRV version of the Agni-V missile in March 2024 as part of the Mission Divyastra program.
The publication also emphasizes that the development of such technologies is taking place against the backdrop of the modernization of China's and Pakistan's nuclear arsenals. India adheres to a policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons, but views the enhancement of missile capabilities as a key element of deterrence.
