In Ivano-Frankivsk region BMW crashed into an oncoming truck: 5 dead, including two minors

In Ivano-Frankivsk region, a nighttime accident involving a truck and a car killed five people, including two minors, and criminal proceedings have been initiated, according to the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk RMA Svitlana Onyshchuk and the regional police, UNN reports.

"Last night, a road accident occurred near the village of Nastashyno in the Burshtyn city community. Five people, including two minors, died as a result of a collision between a car and a truck," Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk RMA, said on Telegram.

According to the regional police, the report of the accident with the dead was received around 21:41, the accident occurred on the H-09 highway, investigators have already found out that the driver drove into the oncoming lane.

"The police found out that the 20-year-old driver of a BMW 520, a resident of Burshtyn, was inattentive, exceeded the speed limit and drove into oncoming traffic on a rounded section. As a result, he collided with a DAF truck driven by a 52-year-old resident of the Republic of Moldova. The police also found out that the residual tread height of the BMW's rear wheels did not meet the established standards," the police said.

"As a result of the accident, the driver and his four passengers, two of whom were underage teenagers, died on the spot," law enforcement confirmed.

"Upon arrival at the scene, rescuers used emergency equipment to unblock the bodies of a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old girl and three boys born in 2004, 2006 and 2008," the State Emergency Service in Ivano-Frankivsk region said.

The truck driver was tested for intoxication, as indicated. He is sober. 

Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
