In Ecuador, 5 people convicted of killing the country's presidential candidate

Five men convicted of murdering Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in August 2023 received stiff prison sentences, with two of them belonging to the Los Lobos criminal group labeled terrorists.
Prosecutors have accused at least two of those convicted of belonging to Los Lobos, a criminal group recognized as a terrorist group.

Five men convicted of the murder in Ecuador of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, shot dead in Quito in August 2023, have been sentenced to heavy prison terms.
Angulo and Castillo were sentenced to 34 years and eight months. Erick Ramirez, Victor Flores and Alexandra Chimbo were sentenced to 12 years.

According to the verdict, Victor Flores was responsible for securing the motorcycle on which the hitman who shot Villavicencio was riding, while Alexandra Chimbo was supposed to warn the shooters of the candidate's departure. Eric Ramirez, for his part, took care of the logistics at the murder scene.

On August 9, 2023, opposition presidential candidate, ex-journalist Fernando Villavicencio, was shot in the head while leaving a campaign meeting in Quito, days before the first round of an election in which he was one of the main favorites.
