The High Council of Justice has granted custody to Vasyl Artimovych, head of the Economic Court of Lviv region. He is suspected of extorting a $1 million bribe from a representative of a private company.

The High Council of Justice granted consent to the detention of Vasyl Artimovych, head of the Economic Court of Lviv Region, and suspended him from the administration of justice for two months. He is suspected of  extorting $1 million in bribes from a representative of a private company. UNN reports this with reference to the SAPO.

"On December 12, 2024, the High Council of Justice granted the request of the head of the SAPO to grant consent to the detention of a current judge and the former head of a commercial court in one of the regions, who were caught extorting USD 1 million in illegal benefits from a representative of a private company," the statement said.

The High Council of Justice found the arguments of the appeal to be substantiated and granted consent to detain the individuals in custody.

In addition, the current judge was suspended from the administration of justice for the duration of the pre-trial investigation for a period of 2 months.

The current and former chairmen of the Economic Court of Lviv region were served a notice of suspicion of extortion of USD 1 million in unlawful benefit from a representative of a private company.
