Egypt is mediating ceasefire talks in Gaza. The new proposal involves Hamas releasing five Israeli hostages each week.

Egypt, one of the mediators in the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, has received positive signals from Israel regarding a new ceasefire proposal that would include a transitional phase, security sources told Reuters on Thursday, UNN writes.

The proposal stipulates that Hamas will release five Israeli hostages every week, sources said.
A security delegation from Egypt has left for Qatar for talks that will include increasing aid to the enclave and releasing the remaining hostages, state-run Al Qahera News TV reported on Thursday.
Asked about the latest proposal, a Palestinian official close to the mediation efforts said that "there are some proposals that look better than previous ones."
Asked if he expected an announcement of a breakthrough on Thursday, he replied: "Maybe not yet."

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not respond to the proposal immediately, but a spokesman said that at the time of writing, there was no Israeli delegation in Doha, Reuters reported.
Addition
Violence in Gaza has intensified since the January ceasefire was broken on March 18 after two months of relative calm.
Israel and Hamas have blamed each other for violating the ceasefire, which gave a respite from the war to 2.3 million residents of Gaza, which has turned into ruins.
Hamas, which Israel says is still holding 59 of the more than 250 hostages captured by the group during the October 7, 2023 attack, accuses Israel of undermining mediators' efforts to negotiate a permanent cessation of hostilities.
Israel says it is ready to extend the ceasefire temporarily if Hamas releases more hostages, but is not yet moving to a second phase in which it will negotiate a permanent end to the war.
Israel has also said it will not accept the presence of Hamas in the enclave and added that it would like to extend the temporary first phase of the ceasefire, a proposal backed by US Special Representative Steve Witkoff.
According to Gaza health officials, more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting.
