As a result of a successful attack on the only provider in the city of Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk region of Russia, Vega, 1173 switches and 10 servers were reportedly disabled. The information on Vega's servers was destroyed.
A number of strategic enterprises in the city have been without internet and communication services for almost a week. Among them is VNIITF (All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics). According to the GUR, this is a Russian nuclear munitions developer that was connected only to the Vega provider.
"A successful attack in the aggressor's cyberspace allowed us to obtain personal data of employees and an array of other documents of the said plant, which is under sanctions. The information obtained, in particular, allows us to establish the mechanisms of circumvention of sanctions and the persons involved," the GUR said in a statement.
The cyber operation also threatens the disruption of Russia's state defense order, as evidenced by comments in local public spaces in Snezhinsk, the DIU added.
