Denmark wants to cancel residence permits for some Ukrainian men
Kyiv • UNN
A bill has been submitted in Denmark that limits the right to temporary protection for Ukrainian men aged 23 to 60. A residence permit will only be granted upon confirmation of exemption from military service.

On June 25, a bill was submitted in Denmark that would deprive Ukrainian men of conscription age of the right to temporary protection in the country. This is reported on the website of the Danish Immigration Service, writes UNN.
Details
It is noted that the bill was submitted by the Danish Minister of Immigration and Integration, Morten Bødskov. The changes will be made to the Special Law on temporary residence permits for displaced persons from Ukraine.
If the bill is adopted, it will mean that some Ukrainians will generally no longer be granted a residence permit under the law on temporary protection for persons displaced from Ukraine (hereinafter — the special law). The bill concerns only applicants who fall under the mobilization rules in Ukraine, i.e., currently men aged 23 to 60.
The bill stipulates that:
- Ukrainian men aged 23–60 will be able to obtain a residence permit only if they provide documentary evidence of exemption from military service;
- Ukrainian men under 23 will be able to obtain a permit only until they reach this age, after which renewal will be possible only if they have confirmation of exemption from military service.
If the law is adopted, the changes will apply to all residence permit applications submitted from June 25, 2026. At the same time, applications submitted from this date but processed before the new rules come into force will be considered under the current legislation.
Also, if the law is adopted, the Immigration Service will consider the possible revocation of residence permits issued to Ukrainian men aged 23–60 if the application was submitted after June 25, 2026, but the decision was made before the new rules came into force. In such cases, the relevant individuals will be notified separately.
The changes will not affect those who have already received a residence permit under the special law and submitted an application before June 25, 2026. This will also not affect the further extension of their status.
